The internet lives... sort of.

Well we somehow got the internet to cooperate for a moment at least, so I will take advantage and do another quick update.

Today was frustrating. One of my classes apparently didn't exist, another has changed classrooms without notice 3 times now (no email, no notes, nothing... leaving about 20 students including myself milling around the locked door before I finally decided to go to the departmental office to ask what was up. Twice now, for the same class, has this happened.) Tonight I was supposed to start my Translation class, but apparently that has changed rooms without warning as well, and in fact, isn't even on the same campus anymore.

I am going to have a talk with Paloma again tomorrow to figure it out, because I don't know if I can even get over there in time. There are supposedly busses that go that way, but I have no idea how they work, and it would be a several mile walk to get there even if I knew where I was going. I had been placed in an advanced class for "Spanish for foreigners" and no wonder, most of these people had only studied for a couple years, and a few from portugal had never studied before. About 20min into the class I realized there was no way I was in the right place, it was ridiculously easy.

The lack of internet access is very frustrating. The wifi is terrible, the computer labs have ancient equipment that can't get VT webmail for some reason but seems to be okay with Gmail (I have all my messages forwarding to gmail for now, so if you want to still use VT mail that is fine, but I might respond from Gmail). I miss Jay, and it is really annoying not being able to talk to him even though we have the means via Skype, just not the decent connection. I miss being spoiled by superior internet connections on VT campus. It is ironic though, because Oviedo has put everything online much like VT, but with the local ISPs it seems almost impossible for me to access anything. Plus, the computer labs close at 5pm....

That along with a complete overhaul of my class schedule in process, second week in, has got me a bit stressed out. This weekend we're going up to the mountains to see something, what I'm not sure to be honest. More on that later.

Another photo from my walk around the Casco Antiguo, the Cathedral of San Salvador:

I also found a bronze statue of Woody Allen, who apparently won one of the Asturian Awards they do every year and made some nice comments about the town, so now he's in bronze. Hmm.

Just hang in there Sandy, sounds like it has been a frustrating day. Yeah going to Tech I think we all got spoiled with the technology. Funny thing is, I think about how many bad comments I would make about the equipment or the Ethernet....good grief!!!! Just hang in there, hey maybe you will get inspired and once you graduate go back to areas like Oviedo and whip their IT stuff into shape!!! LOL! Now I know why Goran refuses to remotely think about living back in Sweden he says it's because lack of opportunity etc.... I think secretly it is because of the lack of internet!!! Ahhh fond moments of half way leaning out of his mother's top floor window desperately trying to get a little piece of wi fi.
