This is "La Torera"... apparently this was a real woman who used to hang out in the park taking pictures of people to make a few bucks here and there "back in the day."
This is "El Diestro"... kind of strange. There are so many random pieces of artwork all over town.
This guy might look familiar to you... it's Woody Allen. What is he doing here in Spain, you might ask? Well, apparently he was a really big fan of Oviedo and in fact the little plaque in front of him on the ground is a quotation from him (translated into spanish) about how Oviedo is "a fairy tale city" and raving about its friendly people and clean streets. Unfortunately however, he seems to be missing part of his glasses at the moment.

They like big butts, and they can not lie...
Okay, I have to devote one post to various shots to my favorite statue in Oviedo located just outside of the Casco Antiguo (old town district essentially) and in the heart of the commercial pedestrian shopping area. Officially, this statue is called "Culis Monumentalibus" but the locals call it "El Gran Culo."... Literally, "The Big Ass." I couldn't make this stuff up. I had to take various angles of it just to really capture how big this thing really is.

Snapping photos around Calle Uria and Campo San Francisco
Well I walked down to C/Uria today to go recharge my bus pass, and since the weather was horribly warm, humid, and sunny, I thought I might as well take advantage of the good lighting to snap a few photos that I've been meaning to get. There are quite a few, so I'll have to break it up into a few posts. Enjoy!
Okay I know I've shown the peacocks before, but I just can't get over it... every time I wander through Campo San Francisco they are just lounging around without a care in the world.
This is the statue "La Maternidad" (The Maternity) by Fernando Botero

A couple of random mini-rants
So I had a strange craving for root beer the other day... and much to my dismay, I found out it doesn't exist here in Spain. When I found that out I proclaimed them all to be sinners and savages.
Today it was so hot that when I got to class after 20min of walking uphill or so, I put my arm down on my desk, had an itch, and when I lifted my arm back up again I found a puddle of sweat on the desk that I had to wipe up in order to protect my papers from getting soaked. I usually don't sweat much at all, but sheesh, this heat/humidity is ridiculous... AND PEOPLE ARE STILL WEARING COATS.
Whoops, I'll have to cut this short... foodtime!

Looking a bit more Spanish...
Becky cut and styled my hair today... too bad I don't have anywhere to go! Oh well, I thought I would also model one of the new shirts I got while I was out shopping the other day. Enjoy -)
